Frank
attended Memorial University of Newfoundland and completed his B.A. with a
double major in History and Political Science along with a concentration in
German. He was also a 4 year member of the Men's Varsity Sea-Hawks Soccer team
and was named a CIAU Academic All-Canadian. Frank received his Bachelor of Laws
degree from Dalhousie
University in 1998 with a
Specialization in Marine Law. He articled at the law firm of Williams,
Roebothan, McKay & Marshall, where he assisted on such high profile civil
actions as Gregory Parsons' civil suit against the Government, police services,
and justice officials for wrongful conviction. Frank joined Rogers Bussey in
June 2002 and was invited to the partnership in January 2006.
Trained as a trial lawyer, Frank has enjoyed success on behalf of
clients particularly in the criminal sphere. He has also appeared successfully
at all levels of tribunals and courts from representing clients at CPP
Disability Tribunals to Provincial
Court, Supreme Court Trial Division, Court of Appeal
and the Federal Court of Canada. He has also been retained to perform Duty
Counsel work for clients on behalf of Legal Aid in Labrador.
He simultaneously maintains a large practice in the area of real estate law,
primarily residential purchases, sales, refinances and new home construction.
Professionally, Mr. Layte was an instructor in Marine Law for two years at the
Marine Institute in St. John's, a division of Memorial University. He is a former member of the
Board of Directors of the Newfoundland and
Labrador Brain Injury Association and is currently a sitting member of the
Board for the Rabbittown
Community Center. In his
spare time he maintains his interest and participation in competitive sports in
both hockey and soccer.
